Barcelona brings Westermann aboard – News

FC Barcelona fortified its backcourt by signing point guard Leo Westermann, who started the season at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. The contract is through the end of the 2021-22 season. Westermann (1.98 meters, 28 years old) averaged 4.8 points on 45% three-point shooting and 2.3 assists over 12:36 minutes in nine EuroLeague this season, his second with Fenerbahce. At Barcelona he reunites with Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius, under whom he played at Zalgiris Kaunas during the 2016-17 and 2018-19 seasons. This marks the second time Westermann has signed with Barcelona; he penned a deal there in 2014 after returning from a torn ACL, but was loaned to Limoges CSP in his native France and never played for Barca.

Westermann came through the youth ranks at the prestigious French national academy, INSEP, before beginning his professional career with ASVEL Villeurbanne. He debuted in the EuroLeague with Partizan Belgrade in 2012, but after a successful first season, his career was derailed by the knee injury. He has since played for Limoges, CSKA and Fenerbahce. Westermann has won six domestic league championships with four different teams during his career. He has also tasted success with the French national team; Westermann was on France’s bronze-medal winning squad at EuroBasket 2015.
