Indian cricketers foreign leagues: South African T20 League: Under pressure from IPL franchises, BCCI is now open to the idea of letting Indian players into foreign franchise tournaments. “A few IPL teams that have a presence in leagues abroad have asked BCCI to allow Indian players. But we have to discuss this in the AGM before we come to any conclusion. It is a contentious issue because the IPL is successful because of the exclusivity it provides. Certainly, I will not We lose that. As for the Indian players playing abroad, it could happen due to the increasing number of franchise associations”, A senior official at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry told InsideSport.

Currently, BCCI only allows female cricketers and retired players to play in its overseas leagues. But all active Indian players are prohibited from playing any role in foreign tournaments. BCCI believes that if Indian players play in foreign leagues, the IPL will lose its exclusivity. However, although the board is considering a change of position, neither high profile players nor centrally contracted players will be allowed to play. This means that Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma will not play in the BBL, The Hundred or the CPL.
